Just a reminder to everyone, that Charity is Life Affirming! Giving to the needy literally justifies our very own well being and existence. As the Rabbi Hillel (may his memory be a blessing) once said: "If I am not for myself then who will be for me? But If I am only for myself then what am I? And if not now, when?" The take away lesson here, is that while all of these words are filled with our sage's wisdom the word "What" in particular, offers us an insider's perspective on R. Hillel's intended meaning. Why? Because it indicates that among the millions of human choices, when we choose not to give we defile the humanity inside of us, and shamefully, reduce our being to that of an animal, a part of the creation which is inherently (and generally) self-centered and cannot for example, know nor comprehend the concept property ownership. I mentioned Yom Kipur instead of Purim for at least two poor people. Levels of charity was wrong I mentioned 6 instead of 8.
But I proud that I know highest charity level. It is to give someone job or way to earn money.
I think this test was not very bad.

I had to use the quiz to refresh what I need to know to practice. G-d is testing me and even feeding a little feral mom cat with kittens is a great way to buy canned cat food and feed hungry cats. Reply

If you are having family difficulties, know that not only are you not alone, but perhaps you can take some comfort in the fact that a very large portion of the very first book of our Torah is all about family dysfunction. And here we are talking about our forefathers and mothers, perhaps the greatest Jews ever, and yet even they faced serious family problems. It just goes to show how we are all human, none of us are perfect, each of us face our particular challenges, and yet G-d loves us anyway Reply

Great questions! Tsedek tsedek tirdof. it is from this sentence that tzedaka is also part. Some people can travel by themselves, and some have no need for help. Yet others, do need assistance. I honestly dislike the word "charity" since it has another connotation. Justice in this world is what we must pursue, and helping others monetarily is part of the obligations Jews have. Yet, I have a question: how was it decided that it must be 10% of all the income? Reply
